MCS' Wheeler third at Princeton Invitational

MCS' Wheeler third
at Princeton Invitational
by Doug Graves

Never mind that there are just two girls on this year's Middletown Christian School cross country team. Individual honors can be just as prominent in this sport.

Becca Wheeler finished third overall in Saturday's Princeton Cross Country Invitational in a time of 20:25. Only Abbie VanFossen of Lakota East and Gloria Corona of Lakota West beat her, in times of 19:14 and 20:23 respectively. Eagle runner Audrey Wallace finished 22nd overall in 23:49. There were 42 runners in the race, representing East, West, Middletown Christian, Colarain, Norwood and Landmark.

The boys of Middletown Christian finished ninth in the field of nine. Representing MCS were Austin Beebe (55th in 22:07), Josh Hohenstatt, Tyler Hamlin, Calvin Lewis, Bram Koeller and Logan Jones.

Prior to the varsity and junior varsity events, the junior high runners took to the rain-soaked course. Thirteen Eagle runners took to the course, led by Chandler Long's 12th place finish in 13:51. Other Middletown Christian harriers included Colton Parker (13th), Kyle Ashley (15th), Cameron Beebe, Brennen Swope, Ben Ruetener, Jarod Hamlin, Noah Lovely, Andrew Gabbard, Tyler Huddleston, Tim Whitsel, Robby Williamitis and Lewie Ross.

Sidney Hacker and Milena Wahl were the lone girls running for MCS. Hacker finished eighth overall in 15:10 while Wahl was next to cross the line in 15:11.
